- Getting off to a Great Start!
- Review what went well last school year and what needs improvement.
- Set Unit Goals and include the Principal
- Make a calendar for this school year and in May for next school year.
- Set the Budget and get it approved at the first Unit Meeting.
- Inventory supplies so you don’t spend money on unneeded items.
- Update your Bylaws, if needed and email a copy to each Board Member and go over the rules.
- Plan of Work
- Beginning of the school year – Set a plan for the year.
- Mid year – Do a progress report.
- End of school year – Do a final report and along with the Principal, make the calendar of events for next school year.
- Utilize MOPTA.org for helpful forms and information.
- Better Board Meetings
- Stick to the dates on the calendar.
- Don’t hold meetings too long.
- Start and end on time.
- Have an agenda and print or email copies to members.
- Ask the Treasurer to bring the current Budget Report.
- Greater attendance at Unit Meetings
- Plan an event for the Unit Meeting such as, having students sing etc…
- Confirm the location, date and time and keep the event timely.
- Determine the food budget, invitation specifics and event activities
- Ask for volunteers and set responsibilities.
- Serve food if possible during dinner time events.
- It helps to market the meeting with the event name.
- Ask Principal to encourage the staff to participate and volunteer.
- Inform Board Members and Committee Leaders of their job duties.
- Keep your Unit in Good Standing.
- Keep insurance current.
- PTA sponsored events and fundraisers are a must.
- Some examples are: Book Fair, Box Tops, Carnival, Grandparents Day, Penny Wars, Selling School Supplies, Spirit Nights, Trash Bags, Yearbooks,Bingo and Movie Night, Room Parties, Trunk or Treat and Ice Cream Social.
- Always look out for PTA members who would make great leaders for the Board or a Committee.
- Elect new officers in March.
